We’ve been in Malleshwaram for quite some time now. Most days start pretty early around here because people want their coffee and tiffin before heading off to work. The building itself is an old house style, which is where the name comes from, though we don't spend much time talking about that. It’s mostly just about getting the food ready on time. We see a lot of the same faces every morning, people who have been living in this part of Bangalore for decades. They know where they like to sit and they don’t usually need to look at a menu. The kitchen stays busy through lunch with the meals we serve. It gets loud and a bit crowded, especially on weekends when families come by after visiting the nearby temples. We try to keep the floors clean and the water jugs filled, but it’s a lot of work. Sometimes the wait is a bit long when the rush hits all at once. We don't have fancy decorations or anything like that. It’s just wooden tables and chairs and the smell of sambar. We’re tucked away on one of the busier streets here, so there is always noise from the traffic outside mixed with the sound of plates clanking. It is just a regular place where you can get a meal and head out. We do our work, close up at night, and then start it all over again the next day.
