Working at the Chandra Kiran Building on Kasturba Road is quite something. It’s a solid old building. Here at Godrej And Boyce Manufacturing Company Ltd, we have our own way of doing things that’s been around for a long time. It’s not about being trendy or following every new fad that comes along. We have our desks, our schedules, and the manufacturing side of things that keeps us all occupied. The elevators in this building can be a bit slow on Monday mornings, which gives us a chance to chat with people from the other floors. My workspace is usually covered in drawings and notes that only I can really understand. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes with all the different departments, but we find our way around eventually. We don’t spend much time worrying about how the office looks to outsiders. We’re more concerned with whether the machines are running and if the orders are going out on time. The tea breaks are probably the best part of the day when we can just sit for ten minutes and not think about production numbers. It’s a lot of hard work, honestly. We’re just a bunch of people who have been in this industry for years. We know the smells of the factory and the sound of the heavy equipment. It’s just what we do. No more, no less.
