We’ve been working out of 119 Vishveshwaraiah Puram in Kudalwadi for some time now. The whole place smells like new rubber and grease. We have stacks of tires reaching almost to the ceiling in some spots. It’s a lot of physical work, especially when the big truck tires come in. We use the air compressors all day long, so there is always that loud humming and the occasional hiss of air. People stop by when they have hit a pothole or noticed their tread is getting thin. We check the pressure, fix punctures, and swap out the old sets for new ones. Kudalwadi can be a dusty area, so the tires get dirty fast once they are on the road. We don't spend much time in the office; we are mostly out on the shop floor with the jacks and the wrenches. It is a dirty job, and our hands stay black from the rubber most of the week. We see all kinds of vehicles, from small family cars to the tempos that carry goods around the city. We just give people a look at what we have and let them decide. There is no fancy talk here. We just make sure the nuts are tight and the balance is right before they drive off. It is a simple business but it keeps us busy from morning to night. Sometimes we even skip lunch when there’s a line of cars.
