Deccan Packers & Movers

We’ve been at No.24 near the City Library for a while now. Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road gets pretty busy, especially in the afternoons when everyone is out. Deccan Packers & Movers is basically just us and a few trucks. My desk is usually covered in old receipts and hand-drawn maps of the Sudhamanagar area. People come in all the time asking about moving their stuff to the other side of town. It is mostly just packing boxes and making sure we don't run out of tape. We spend a lot of time on 2nd Cross. Sometimes the library is quiet, but our street definitely isn't. Shifting heavy furniture is hard work, and my back usually hurts by five. We don't have a fancy office, just some old chairs and a fan that squeaks when it’s on high. It gets really dusty with all the cardboard lying around. My brother helps with the heavy lifting. We see a lot of families leaving and new ones coming in. It is interesting to see what people keep in their houses. Old sofas, dusty books, and kitchen sets. We just try to get the truck loaded before it starts to rain. Traffic in Bangalore is always a mess, so we try to start very early in the morning. Sometimes the tea stall down the road is the only thing keeping us going. We have seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years. The library has been there forever, though. (246 words)
