Banashankari Wood Industries

Our workshop is over on Acharya College Road, right across from the Jindal Jubilee High School. We occupy units 39 and 40 in Chikkabanavara. It’s a noisy place because we have the saws running most of the day. You can smell the sawdust from the street. We work with all kinds of wood, making frames and pieces for local builders. It’s dusty work, and our clothes are always covered in fine shavings by lunch. The school kids walk past every afternoon, and sometimes it gets a bit chaotic with the traffic during those times. We have a small crew, mostly guys who have been working with wood their whole lives. We don't have a showroom with finished furniture. Instead, you'll see stacks of raw lumber and half-finished projects leaning against the walls. If someone wants something made, they usually bring a sketch or just tell us the dimensions. We figure it out from there. It’s a straightforward job. We don’t use any high-tech machines, just the old reliable ones that have been with us for years. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait, but usually, we stay pretty busy. It’s a good way to spend the day, working with your hands and seeing something get built from scratch. The 1st Main area is where we have always been, and we plan to stay put for the foreseeable future.
