We are over at C V Raman Nagar on Rajavir Road. Chef Bakers is a simple enough name for what we do here. We spend our mornings getting the bread and cakes ready for the day. The smell of yeast is usually the first thing you notice when you walk in. It’s a practical setup. We have the ovens in the back and the glass cases in the front. We don’t spend much on advertising; we mostly just rely on people seeing the sign while they’re walking down Rajavir Road. The floor is tile and easy to sweep, which is good because we spill flour quite a lot. We have a few stools for people who want to wait for an order. It isn't a huge place, but we make it work for us. Most of us live nearby in C V Raman Nagar, so it’s a short commute. We see the kids coming in after school for something small to eat. It's a nice routine. We aren't trying to win any awards. We just want to make sure the cakes are fresh and the orders are ready on time. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook, and other times it’s quiet enough to hear the fridge. We have a small radio in the back that’s usually playing some local station. The bread racks take up a lot of space, so it’s a bit of a maze back there. We get our flour in heavy bags that we haul in ourselves. It’s just steady work.
