Chandana Machine Cutting Jewellery Works

Our workshop is right in the middle of Chickpet at 70/4. If you have ever been down these lanes, you know how packed it gets with people and carts moving around. We have been doing machine cutting for jewellery here for quite some time. The machines make a steady humming sound all day long and there is always fine dust on the tables. It is not the kind of place where you sit down for coffee; it is a working space. We take the raw pieces and get to work on the designs that people bring us. Usually, it is local jewellers who need specific patterns cut or finished. The space is tight, just enough room for the equipment and a couple of stools for us to sit on. We spend most of our hours bent over the benches under bright lights. It gets hot in the afternoons but the fan helps a little. We do not do much advertising because most people just know we are here by word of mouth. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, but we always get back to it once it is on. Our neighbor sells fabric and sometimes we can barely hear ourselves talk over the shouting outside. It is just the way Chickpet is. We keep the scrap metal organized in little tins so nothing gets lost. It is a lot of repetitive work but someone has to do it correctly so the final piece looks right and satisfies the person who ordered it.
