You can find us at Yard 98 in the Yeshwantpur APMC yard, specifically on the 4th Main Road, 7th Cross. This area is always full of movement and noise. There are laborers carrying heavy sacks on their shoulders and the sound of tractor engines everywhere. Our space is basically a big warehouse with high ceilings. It’s quite cool inside compared to the dusty road outside. We deal with bulk quantities of goods most of the time. Hours are spent checking the quality of what comes off the trucks. We use a small metal probe to take samples from the bags. If the quality is okay, we move them into our storage area. The floor is concrete and has some cracks from years of heavy loads being dragged across it. We have an old desk tucked into a corner where we handle all the paperwork. There’s always a pile of bills and delivery notes sitting there. We don't have any air conditioning, just the breeze that comes through the big open shutters. Communication is mostly done by shouting over the noise of the yard. We have a few regular helpers who have been with us for years. They know exactly where every batch is stored. By the time we close up in the evening, we are usually covered in a thin layer of dust from the grains. It’s hard work but it’s what we know how to do.
