Arun Nalapat Architects is located over at No 129/1 on Old Varthur Road in C V Raman Nagar. It’s a decent spot, though the traffic on the main road can be a bit much during the rush hours. The office itself is usually a mess of trace paper, scale rulers, and half-empty coffee mugs. We’ve been working on designs here for a while now. Architecture sounds fancy to people who don't do it, but for us, it’s mostly just sitting at a computer or a drawing board trying to make things fit into a budget. We spend a lot of time arguing over where a window should go or why a certain material won't work in the local weather. It’s a lot of phone calls to contractors who don’t pick up and visiting sites where the ground is just mud and piles of bricks. We don't have a glossy portfolio displayed on every wall; usually, there are just some sketches taped up so we don't forget a detail. C V Raman Nagar has its own rhythm, and we’ve gotten used to it. When someone walks in, they’re usually looking to build a house or fix up an office space. We listen to what they want, draw it out, and then spend months making sure it actually happens. It’s slow work, and you have to be patient with the process. We just keep at it, one drawing at a time.
