Agriya Engineering Works. Albert Victor Road in Chamrajpet. It’s a busy street. Our shop is at 302. You can hear the metal banging from outside. It’s not a quiet place. We have some lathes and some old drills. The floor has oil stains that never really go away. We've been here for a long time. People from the neighborhood bring stuff to get welded or fixed. It's just three of us working here most days. Sometimes it gets really hot in the summer because of the machines. We don't have fancy air conditioning. Just a big fan that moves the dust around. We start early in the morning. Usually around eight. The tea stall next door is where we go for breaks. We do things by hand mostly. It takes time. If you’re looking for a shiny office, this isn't it. We have grease on our shirts. That’s how it goes. The street outside is always full of traffic and cows sometimes. We keep the shutters up until late evening. It’s honest work. We don't use computers much, just some old ledgers for the accounts. Everything is manual. You come in, show us what's broken, and we see if we can do something about it. It's been the same way for years now. Chamrajpet hasn't changed that much around here. We just keep our heads down and get the repairs done for the folks who stop by.
