It’s a place where you can hear the temple bells and the honking of bikes all at once. We deal in gold ornaments, mostly. The shop isn't a modern glass box; it’s got a lot of character and a bit of wear and tear. We spend our days tucked away behind the counters. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so there’s always someone drinking coffee or arguing about where a certain box went. The street outside is so narrow that two people can barely walk side by side when the vendors are out. We’ve been here long enough that we know all the other shopkeepers around. We don't spend money on big posters or radio ads. Most of our work comes from people who have been coming to this street for thirty years. We show the gold, weigh it, and talk about the price. It’s straightforward. Some days the power goes out and we have to use the old hand fans, but we keep the doors open. It’s just a practical way to run a jewelry business in a place like Bangalore. We try to be fair and just get the work done every day.
