Kotaladinne isn't a huge place, so our school stands out a bit on the landscape in the Gauribidanur area. To get here, you have to drive through Chickballapur, and the road can be a bit bumpy depending on the season. Our school is a basic building where kids from the surrounding farms and houses come to spend their day. The mornings start early with the sound of the bell, which is basically just a piece of metal someone hits with a hammer. It’s loud enough that everyone in the neighborhood knows class is starting. The classrooms have high ceilings and the walls have some posters on them that have been there for a few years now. You’ll see the primary kids running around the yard during their breaks, and usually, there’s a bit of dust flying because it’s quite dry out here. We have some benches under the shade for the teachers to sit on when they have a free period. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows everyone’s family. If a student is late, we usually know why before they even tell us. We don't have any high-tech gadgets, just books and chalk and people who show up every day to do their jobs. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just open the windows wider. It’s a quiet life out here in Kotaladinne, and we just keep things moving along day by day.
