Kasturi Coconut Processings

Our facility, Kasturi Coconut Processings, is located way out on Chowki Mutt Road in Keremegala Doddi. It’s part of the Lalagatha Post in Channapatna Taluk. It’s a bit of a drive to get here, passing through a lot of green fields and narrow roads. The address is 673/50, but mostly people just look for the building with the piles of coconut husks outside. We do a lot of the heavy lifting here, literally. Dealing with coconuts is physical work and your hands get rough after a few weeks. We have a few sheds where the processing happens. It’s noisy when the grinders are on, so we usually have to shout to be heard. The air is always thick with the smell of coconuts. Most of the people working here have been with us since we started on this road. We don't really have a hierarchy; everyone knows what needs to be done. If a truck arrives late, we all stay back to finish the unloading. It’s not a fancy corporate setup with air conditioning. We just have the breeze coming through the open doors. Sometimes we have tea breaks under the big tree in the yard. It’s a quiet life in the village area, away from the city noise. We just aim to get the bags filled and the quality checked before they go out. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till the evening bells finally ring.
