Chaithra Provision Store

Our shop is situated right near Mukesh Steel Ltd. in Attibele, at house number 728. Chaithra Provision Store is the place where many of the workers from the nearby factories stop by to get their daily supplies. We stock a bit of everything, like rice, dal, tea leaves, and even things like soap or light bulbs. It is not a very big shop, so we have to use every bit of wall space for shelving. The floor is worn down in the spots where people stand while they wait for their items. We open up the shutters very early in the morning so the guys on the first shift can grab their cigarettes or snacks. It gets incredibly busy during the lunch break and then again once the sun starts to go down. We recognize most of the faces that come through the door even if we do not know everyone's name. Sometimes we run out of fresh items like milk before the afternoon is over because it is a popular spot. We do not use any fancy computer systems here; we just know the prices and do the math in our heads. My wife helps me out during the rush hours so we can keep the line moving. We have lived in this area for many years and it feels good to be part of the daily routine for so many people. It is a lot of standing but we enjoy the talk.
