About Roopa Pickles – Architect, Interior & Structural Design in Belur
If you walk down the Main Road in Bantenahally you will eventually find our small setup for Roopa Pickles. We have been making these for a few years now right from this spot. The air usually smells like vinegar and mustard oil which is how you know we are working on a new batch of mango or lime. It is a small team of us, mostly just family and a few ladies from nearby who help with the chopping and the mixing. We don't use any of those big industrial machines you see on TV, it is mostly hand work and big ceramic jars sitting in the sun on the roof when the weather is right. Bantenahally is a quiet enough place but we stay busy enough trying to get the bottles filled and labeled. The labels sometimes go on a bit crooked because we do them all by hand while we are chatting. We don't have a fancy showroom, just a front area where people can pick up a jar if they are passing by. It gets a bit cramped when we have a lot of fresh vegetables delivered and we have to clear floor space. We just try to make things the way we like to eat them at home. It’s a simple life and we are just happy to be working for ourselves here on the main road.
