Walker Jeans & Casuals

Up here at Maruthi Colony on Car Street, things are always moving. We are tucked away as part of Bafna Clothing Company and Mutha Dresses, so the place stays crowded with fabric and thread. Walker Jeans & Casuals is basically just a few rooms filled with sewing tables and piles of denim. The street outside is loud most of the time, especially with the temple nearby and all the traffic on Car Street. We start early when it is still a bit cool. Most of the staff comes in from the surrounding parts of town. We don't have a lot of space, so we have to keep the boxes stacked high against the walls. It is a bit of a maze sometimes. We do a lot of jeans, obviously, and some other casual clothes that people wear around here. There is no air conditioning, just a few old ceiling fans that buzz while we work. We eat our lunch together in the small back area. It’s not a fancy setup at all, just a local business trying to get the orders finished on time. The floor is usually covered in little bits of thread and cloth scraps by the time we head home in the evening. We have been in this spot for years and the neighbors in Maruthi Colony are used to the sound of our machines running until late.
