About Umadevi Nylon Fish Nets – Safety & Security in Bellary
Down in Hospet Taluk, specifically on Dam Road near the Tungabhadra Dam, is where we set up Umadevi Nylon Fish Nets. Being so close to the water makes a lot of sense for what we do. You can feel the breeze off the dam on some days, which is nice when it’s hot in the afternoon. We work with a lot of nylon, obviously. There are huge rolls of it everywhere in the shop. It’s a very manual process, measuring and cutting and checking for any flaws in the mesh before it goes out. The building is a bit older, and the roof makes quite a noise when it rains hard. We don't have a big corporate structure or many layers of management here. It’s mostly family and locals from the Bellary District. We start work when the sun comes up and usually wrap things up by dusk. It’s a steady pace that we've maintained for years. People from the surrounding villages come by to pick up what they need for the fishing season. We don't do much in the way of advertising. Most people know we're here just by word of mouth or by seeing the sign on Dam Road as they pass by. It’s a simple life, focused on getting the nets ready for the fishermen who rely on them. We’ve been here a long time and the dam hasn't changed much, and neither have we. Just keep working and keeping the shop running every day.
