Sri Guru Arts

Sri Guru Arts is located at number 25 in Basaveshwara Bazar, right in the middle of Hagaribommanahalli. This is a traditional market area, and we fit right in with the other shops that have been here for ages. Our work involves a lot of artistic stuff, mostly making signs or doing lettering and other art-related tasks that local people need for their homes or shops. The place is usually a bit of a mess with scraps of material, brushes, and jars of ink sitting around on every available surface. It’s a small space, but we make it work for us. The light isn't always the best in the back, so we often do the fine work near the front door where the sunlight comes in from the bazaar. Hagaribommanahalli is the kind of place where news travels fast, so we don't really need to advertise our services. If we do a decent job on a sign for one shop, the neighbor will usually come by a week later asking for something similar. We don't have a computerized system for everything; a lot of the designs are still drawn out by hand first to see how they look on paper. It’s a slow process compared to what you see in the big cities, but people around here seem to appreciate the manual effort. We just keep our heads down and keep working on whatever project is currently on the table, trying to get the colors just right. It is a quiet life of painting.
