Being in Bellary means you are used to the iron and the steel. Our place is over at Akshayadoor, number 29A, in the Sanjay Gandhi Nagar area. It is not the quietest part of town, but it is where the work is. If you walk around here, you can smell the metal and hear the heavy trucks moving through. We handle a lot of steel stuff every day. It is hard work and your hands are rarely clean. The guys here don't talk much while they are working because the machines are loud and you have to pay attention to what you are doing. We have a lot of loads coming in and going out, and the traffic can be a real headache some days. But we have a rhythm going. You get used to the pace after a couple of months. We don't have any of those shiny lobbies or anything like that. It's just a functional space where we get the steel ready. Sometimes the heat in Bellary is enough to make you want to quit, but then you grab a cold water and get back to it. We take pride in just getting the orders out on time without making a big fuss about it. The neighbors know us as the steel people and we have a decent relationship with the other businesses on the street. It is steady, heavy work that requires a lot of patience and some strong backs to keep things moving.
