Maatrubhumi

We are located in Gandhinagar and have been here for a while. Maatrubhumi is the name we use for our business. It’s a quiet place compared to the bigger cities nearby. Our shop is simple and we don’t have any of those bright neon signs. We mostly deal with local goods and items that people in the neighborhood need every day. The morning starts with cleaning the front area and setting out some of the stock. We have a lot of regular customers who stop by on their way to work. It’s nice because we can talk about how the families are doing. We don’t have a big staff, just me and a helper who comes in the afternoons. The shelves are wooden and we made them ourselves years ago. They are a bit wobbly but they hold everything just fine. Sometimes we run out of things because the supplier didn't come on time, but people understand. We don’t use computers much, just a ledger to keep track of what we buy and sell. The afternoon can be slow when it’s hot outside, so we just sit and listen to the radio. We don’t have any big goals of opening more branches or anything like that. We just want to keep this one running well and serve the people who come in. It’s a steady way to live. Gandhinagar is a good place for a shop like ours because people value the personal touch. We just keep things moving one day at a time.
