Jsw Steel Ltd, Bellry Karnataka

We live at M-3/8 in Vijay Vithal Nagar, which is part of the Vidyanagar area near Bellary. Our lives are pretty much centered around the Jsw Steel operations. If you’ve ever been to this part of Karnataka, you know it’s not for everyone. It’s hot, it’s dry, and there is a lot of heavy work happening all the time. Our house is just one of many in the block, and we all share the same kind of daily grind. You wake up early, maybe get some tea from the corner, and then it’s off to the site. The plant is huge and it never stops, so the rhythm of the neighborhood follows that. Even at night, you can see the lights from the chimneys glowing against the dark sky. It’s a bit of a strange sight if you aren't used to it. We have the basics here, a few shops that sell what we need and a post office nearby. We don’t really go into Bellary city unless we absolutely have to, as it’s a bit of a trek. Most of our friends are people we work with. We sit around in the evenings and talk about the day's work or how the weather is getting even hotter. It’s a simple, hardworking life. We aren't looking for anything more than a steady job and a quiet place to sleep. That's just how it is for us here.
