We work out of the Toranagallu area, right by the Paharpur cooling towers. It’s a busy spot in the Bellary district. Most of us get here early because the sun starts beating down pretty hard by noon. The plant is a big part of the landscape here in Karnataka. Jsw Energy has been running things around here for quite some time now. It isn't always quiet, what with the machinery and the trucks moving in and out, but that’s just how industrial work goes. We handle the power side of things. Sometimes the dust from the surrounding areas gets everywhere, so we’re always cleaning up. A lot of the staff live in the quarters nearby or travel from the city. It’s a straightforward job, really. You show up, check the monitors, and make sure the energy is flowing like it should. We aren't trying to be fancy. The building itself is functional, built for the climate. It’s funny how you get used to the hum of the towers after a while. Most days are pretty routine, which is actually a good thing in this line of work. We know the neighbors and the local shops where we grab tea. It’s just a group of people keeping the lights on for everyone else. We’ve seen the area change a lot over the years, more buildings going up, but the work stays the same. We focus on getting through the shifts safely and getting back home to our families in the evening.
