Janki Steels Ltd, Bellary

We have been here for a while now in Bellary. The steel business is tough but it keeps us busy every single day. Our place is easy to find if you know where Basha Mohioddeen's family stayed. It is mostly about moving heavy stuff and making sure the lorries are loaded right. Some days are slow, others we can't keep up with the phone ringing. We handle all sorts of steel pieces, mostly for building things nearby. The sun gets really hot here in Karnataka, so we start early in the morning to get the work done before noon. Our yard is always full of iron rods and sheets. People stop by to ask for prices or just to see what we have in stock. It isn't a fancy office, just a practical space where we deal with contractors and local builders. Sometimes the paperwork gets messy but we manage. My father started things here and now we just keep it going as best as we can. We know the neighbors well and the local drivers too. Most of the time it's just about getting the metal from one point to another without too much trouble. It is honest work and it puts food on the table for everyone working here. We don't spend much time on the computer, mostly we are outside checking the inventory and talking to the guys about the next load. We usually wrap things up by sunset when the dust finally starts to settle.
