Shri Jgch Co Operative Ayurvedic Medical College

Shri Jgch Co Operative Ayurvedic Medical College is tucked away in Ghataprabha, near Belgaum. It’s a place where the air often smells like dried herbs and traditional oils. We have been here for a while, focusing on the old ways of medicine. The campus isn't very large, but it has enough space for the classrooms and a small garden where some medicinal plants are grown. Students here spend a lot of time looking at old texts and learning how to mix different natural ingredients. There is also a small hospital wing where local people come for treatments. It’s quite different from the big city hospitals; things move a bit slower here. The building has those thick stone walls that keep the interior cool even when the sun is beating down outside. Most of our staff are people who really believe in the Ayurvedic system and have spent their lives studying it. You won't find much chrome or glass here, just wooden tables and jars of powders. In the afternoons, the students can be found in the library or sitting on the porch discussing their lessons. The cooperative aspect means there’s a bit of a community feel to how the place is run. People from the surrounding villages trust the college for their health needs. It’s a simple, practical institution dedicated to a very old tradition of healing right here in Karnataka. We just keep practicing the methods we were taught.
