Our little shop, Omkar Store, is at 14/463 on Bagewadi Road. We are part of the Kk Colony neighborhood. It’s a small corner store that has been around for quite a while. If you walk inside, you will see jars of candy on the counter and stacks of newspapers near the door. We sell the basics that everyone needs, like salt, sugar, and cooking oil. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we never seem to find the time to get it done. I spend most of my day sitting on a stool behind the counter, watching the traffic go by on Bagewadi Road. It’s a quiet life for the most part. Children come in after school to spend a few coins on sweets, and the older men stop by to talk about the weather or local news. We don't have a computer to track inventory; we just look at the shelves and see what is missing. It’s a very simple way of doing things, but it works for us. We know which neighbors like which brand of tea and we try to keep a bit of it in stock for them. It’s not about making a fortune, it’s just about being part of the colony and having something to do. We open early in the morning before the sun gets too hot and stay until the streetlights come on.
