We are situated in Akahabishunpur village, which is in the Nikaspur panchayat of Ujiarpur block. Kundan Kumar is the one in charge of things here. Being in a village means we know almost everyone who walks through the door. It’s a small hospital, more of a clinic feel really. We have a few rooms and a small area for emergencies. The road leading up to us can be a bit bumpy, especially after it rains. We have to deal with the realities of being in a rural block, like sometimes the medicine takes an extra day to arrive from the city. Our staff is mostly from the surrounding villages. We have tea together in the mornings before the first patients arrive. The building is nothing fancy to look at, just a solid place where people can go when they aren't feeling well. We have a lot of farmers coming in after they finish their work in the fields. It’s a busy life, and we try to keep up with everything. There’s always a list of repairs to be done, like a leaky faucet in the bathroom or a flickering light bulb in the hall. We just take it one day at a time here in Ujiarpur. It’s a simple life, but we are here every day. Sometimes the power is out, but we make do.
