The oil business out here in Beed is pretty straightforward. Vijayraj Oil Industries Private Limited is located at 355 Mainda, which is in the Beed taluka. If you drive out this way, you will see a lot of open land and fields before you get to our gate. The main thing you notice when you walk in is the smell of the seeds being pressed. It is a heavy, earthy scent that stays on your clothes long after you leave. The machinery we use is quite loud, so we have to shout sometimes to be heard over the grinders. Most of our workers are from the nearby villages and they have been around oil mills for a long time. It is a dusty environment because of the trucks coming in and out with loads of raw material. The sun in this part of Maharashtra is very strong, so we try to get the heaviest work done in the cooler morning hours. We spend a lot of time checking the machines to make sure nothing is leaking or getting clogged. It is a practical, blue-collar kind of job. We do not do much beyond pressing the oil and getting it ready for transport. It is hard work, but it is what we know how to do.
