We operate out of Khandvivadi in Partur. Our setup is at Asarabai Kisanrao Mandge’s place. It’s a simple edible oil business. In this part of the country, people care about their oil, so we try to keep things honest. We spend most of our time dealing with seeds and the pressing machines. It’s oily work, obviously. Our clothes always have that faint smell of groundnuts or sunflowers. It’s just part of the job. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. Most of our customers are folks from the local villages who’ve been buying from us for a long time. We know their names and they know ours. The machines can be a bit loud, so we do a lot of shouting to be heard. It’s a small operation, just a few of us making sure the drums are filled and the quality is okay. Partur is a quiet place, and we like it that way. We don’t have big ambitions to take over the world. We just want to keep the press running and the oil flowing. Sometimes the supply of seeds is short and we have to wait a few days. We take it as it comes. It’s hard work, but it’s honest. We’re just local people doing what we know how to do. Some days are long, but we always find time for a break and some tea.
