Universal Manufacturers

Plot No. 1 on Street No. 5 in Baba Farid Nagar is where you’ll find Universal Manufacturers. It’s a small industrial pocket. The street is narrow, so getting big trucks in can be a bit of a headache. We have a workshop floor that stays busy from eight in the morning. There’s always the sound of cutting or welding going on. The walls are a bit stained from the smoke, and the floor has seen better days. We don't have a receptionist; usually, whoever is closest to the door just looks up and says hello. We make things here, plain and simple. It’s a lot of manual labor and keeping an eye on the machines. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish a batch. The neighborhood is full of other small shops, so there’s a lot of banging and clanging from next door too. We know the other shop owners and sometimes borrow tools from them. It’s a community of makers. We don't spend money on fancy brochures. If someone wants to see what we do, they just walk in and look at the workbench. It’s a bit messy, but that’s how manufacturing looks when people are actually working. We keep our coffee mugs on the desks and our coats on the back of the chairs. It’s just home for us during the day while we get the orders done.
