Shree Ganesh Battery House. Our shop is located at 3211 Malwa Street, right across from the Urang Theatre. If there is a popular movie playing, the whole street gets blocked up with people and scooters. We have batteries of all sizes lined up on the floor and on heavy wooden shelves. Most of them are for cars or those big inverters people use at home when the power goes out. The shop has a specific smell of lead and acid that you get used to after a while. We have a small area in the back where we put batteries on charge, and you can hear the faint humming of the machines all day. Customers usually come in looking worried because their vehicle won't start, so we spend a lot of time testing things with our meters. Our clothes often get holes in them from the battery acid if we aren't careful. It’s a small space, so we usually stand out on the pavement to talk to people or look at their car engines. There is a lot of heavy lifting involved. Moving those big truck batteries around is tough. We don't have any fancy ads or a polished showroom. It’s just us, some wrenches, and a lot of black plastic battery cases. When it’s quiet, we just sit on the stools and watch the crowd going into the cinema across the way.
