Salasar Rice Mills

Salasar Rice Mills is located right on the Nathana Bhagta Road in Village Kalyan Sukha. It’s a busy stretch of road, so there is always noise from the traffic passing by. Our mill adds to that noise with the humming of the engines and the clatter of the grain elevators. We have a fairly large yard, but it feels small when the trucks start lining up out onto the road. Kalyan Sukha is where we have put in all our time. The gates at Salasar Rice Mills stay open most of the day because there is always someone coming or going. We don’t use any fancy words to describe what we do. It’s just milling rice. We take the raw stuff and process it until it’s ready. The sheds are made of corrugated metal and they get really hot in the summer. In the winter, the air is crisp and the dust seems to hang longer in the light. We don’t have any awards on the walls or anything like that. We just have a calendar and a few ledgers where we keep track of things by hand. It’s a bit old-fashioned, maybe, but it works for us. People know the Salasar name around Nathana Bhagta Road, mostly just from seeing us here every single day. We don’t plan on changing much. We just keep the machines oiled and the floors swept as best as we can and try to keep things moving along.
