Hargobind Rice Mills

Hargobind Rice Mills is located in Bhucho Mandi on Govindpura Road. Being near the mandi means we are right in the middle of all the grain trade action. It’s a very busy area, especially when the markets are open and everyone is trying to move their produce quickly. Our mill is a hive of activity from dawn until long after dark some days. The noise of the machinery is something you just get used to after a while. We don't have a lot of frills here. The office is just a small room with a desk and some chairs where we keep the records and talk to the drivers. Most of the space is taken up by the milling units and the storage areas for the heavy bags. Working on Govindpura Road means we see a lot of people every day. It’s a community of workers and farmers all trying to get through the harvest season. We don't use marketing talk because our work is just about the sacks getting filled and moved out. The weather plays a big role in our lives; we are always looking at the sky for rain. If it rains, everything slows down and we have to scramble to cover the grain. We just keep our heads down and focus on the task at hand. It’s a gritty, honest way to make a living, and we’ve been doing it this way for many years. It is what it is.
