Ganga Maiya Rice Mills

Down on Lehra Bega Road in Bhucho Mandi, you’ll find Ganga Maiya Rice Mills. It’s a place that’s seen a lot of seasons come and go. We aren’t a huge operation, but we stay busy enough. The yard is usually full of tractor-trolleys during the peak months. You can hear the hum of the rollers from quite a distance away. It’s a simple business, really. We take the paddy, clean it, and get the husk off. It sounds easy, but there is a lot that can go wrong with the moisture and the temperature. We’ve had our fair share of long days where nothing seems to go right. My cousin helps me run the place, and we have a few local guys who do the heavy lifting. The floor is always covered in a fine layer of dust, no matter how much we sweep. We don’t have a marketing team or anything like that. We just rely on the fact that we’ve been here on this road for a long time. People know where the gate is. It’s a bit of a rough-and-ready setup, but it works for us. We just keep the machines oiled and hope for a good harvest every year. There isn’t much more to it than that. We just do our bit in the Mandi and go home tired at the end of the day.
