Dr. Holmes Academy

You can find Dr. Holmes Academy right on Nh-15, along the road that goes from Goniana to Bajakhana in Jeeda, near the Cantt area of Bhatinda. Because we are situated on the highway, we see a lot of trucks and cars passing by all day long. The school itself is a sturdy building that stands out against the flat land around here. We have a big gate and a front yard that we try to keep neat, though the dust from the road makes it a constant battle. Most of our students come from the surrounding villages and the army area nearby. We have a small staff of teachers who live around here and know the local families. The classrooms are basic with wooden desks and windows that look out onto the fields. We don't have any high-tech systems, just regular boards and books. During the winter, it gets quite cold, so the kids come wrapped up in thick sweaters and mufflers. In the summer, we rely on the ceiling fans to keep things moving. We have a small area for sports where the kids play cricket or kabaddi during their free time. It’s a very grounded place where we don't worry about being fancy. We just focus on the daily routine of teaching and making sure the children are learning what they need to. It’s a regular part of the Jeeda community and has been for some years now.
