Deep Rice Mill

Being near the New Grain Market and right opposite Bhai Mool Chand Sahib makes Deep Rice Mill a pretty hectic place some days. There is a lot of movement in this part of town. We get people stopping by asking for directions or just looking to see what we are up to. The mill itself is tucked away a bit, but the noise of the processing usually gives us away. We have to be careful with the space we have because the street outside is always full of carts and bikes. Inside, it’s a maze of pipes and hoppers. We spend a lot of time cleaning out the filters so things don't get clogged up. It’s a bit of a dusty environment, so we usually wear scarves over our faces. The light comes in through the high windows in long streaks during the afternoon. It’s actually quite nice to see, even if we are too busy to look for long. We don't really do any advertising or anything like that. The location near the market means people just stumble upon us or hear about us from their neighbors. We deal with the farmers directly and it’s always interesting to hear how the crop is looking this year. It’s just a regular business in a busy neighborhood, trying to keep up with the demand and making sure our equipment stays in one piece.
