A. G. Rice Mills

A. G. Rice Mills is situated on Bega Road in Bhucho Mandi. It is right in the heart of where everything happens during the rice season. The air is always thick with the smell of dry husks and the sound of heavy engines. We spend most of our days standing on the concrete floors, watching the grain flow through the hoppers. It is a long walk from the front gate to the back where the main milling happens. We have a small office, but it is mostly used for keeping the ledger and drinking tea. The walls are covered in old calendars and maps of the local area. Bhucho Mandi is a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business. We have our regulars who bring their paddy every year without fail. Sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate and we have to cover everything with tarps in a hurry. Those are the stressful days. Otherwise, it is a steady crawl from morning till dusk. We aren't trying to be the biggest mill around, just trying to keep our machines running and our workers busy. The Bega Road traffic can get pretty bad, but we are used to it. It’s just our corner of the world. Nothing too special, just a place where people work hard and try to do a decent job with the rice we get. It's just a regular business with regular people behind it, nothing fancy or complicated about how we run things here.
