Sachdeva General Store

We have been running this shop at Ghas Mandi Chowk for a good number of years now. Most people around Jandiala Guru know our spot because it is right near the main crossing. It is a simple general store, nothing too fancy to look at from the outside. Inside, we keep all the things families need for their daily lives. You will find sacks of flour, different kinds of dals, and all the usual spices that go into a Punjabi kitchen. My father started this and I have been helping out since I was a teenager. Now I am the one opening the shutters every morning at 8 AM. The traffic at the chowk can be a real headache sometimes with the tractors and buses making a lot of noise. We just sit here on our wooden stools and wait for the customers to come in. Some people just want a pack of matches or a small bag of sugar, while others buy for the whole month. We have a small notebook where we keep track of things for our regulars. It gets a bit dusty with all the vehicles passing by, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the glass jars and the counter. We do not really do any advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here. It is a busy life but we are used to it. Sometimes my kids come and sit here after school. It is just a normal family business in Amritsar.
