My name is Bakhish Singh and I work out of Bajwa Sanitation over on Bhagwan Avenue. It’s mostly pipes, fittings, and various bathroom stuff around here. If you walk into the shop, you’ll see stacks of tiles and various plumbing parts taking up most of the space. It’s not a very big shop, so we have to be careful where we step so we don't trip over a pipe. Working in sanitation means you're always dealing with something that’s broken or leaking, so my clothes are rarely clean by the time lunch rolls around. Bhagwan Avenue is a fairly quiet area compared to the main roads, which I like. I’ve spent a lot of my life learning how these systems work, and now I just spend my days helping people get their water running right or fixing a drain that’s stopped up. It’s practical work and it keeps me busy from the morning until the evening. Sometimes the supplies don’t arrive on time from the warehouse and that messes up the whole schedule for the day, but that’s just life in the trade. We don't spend any money on fancy advertisements or anything like that. People just know us because we’ve been here at Bajwa Sanitation for a while. It’s just me and a couple of others trying to keep things moving. We drink our tea in the back when there’s a break and talk about the news.
