I usually get to the shop at H.No. 8-87 pretty early before the sun gets too hot in Bollaram. Being in Room 01 at Beereappa Basti means we see everyone walking by to work. Mothkur Gems And Jewelles Private Limited is just us working in a small space. We have some old display cases that have been here since the start. Some people ask why the name is spelled a bit funny on the old papers, but we just kept it that way because it didn't seem to matter much. The gems aren't always perfect, but they are real. We spend a lot of time sitting on the floor or on small stools checking things under the light. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and talk in the dark for a while. It’s not a big fancy showroom like you see in the city center. It’s just a room. People from the neighborhood drop in to ask about fixing a chain or a ring for their family. We know most of the families around here by now. The street gets a bit dusty in the afternoons when the wind picks up. I like looking at the stones when the light hits them just right from the open doorway. It’s quiet work, mostly. We don't do much advertising because everyone knows where Room 01 is anyway. Bollaram is a busy place but our little corner stays mostly the same. We have been here long enough that the walls feel familiar. That's just how it is for us every day.
