You can find Vt Masale right on the Main Road along N.H.-16 in Jagdalpur. Being near the highway means there's always a lot of dust and noise from the trucks passing by. We have a small shop and a processing area behind it where we grind the spices. The smell of chili and turmeric is everywhere here; it gets into your clothes and stays there. I’ve been working here since I was a young man, following what my father taught me about the different blends. We get our raw materials from the local markets and clean them ourselves. It is a slow process because we don't use the big industrial machines that some other places have. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to wait, but that gives us time to talk to the truck drivers who stop for water. Jagdalpur is a good place to be, even if it gets very hot in the summer. We don't spend money on marketing or fancy labels. Our customers are mostly folks traveling the highway or people from the nearby villages. They know our masale are fresh and that we don't add any junk to them. It is honest work and it keeps us fed. Every bag we fill is done by hand, and we check the weight on an old scale before sealing it.
