B. D. Motors

B. D. Motors is way out in Kholapata, in the Basirhat area. We are near the coldstore, which is where most people tell their friends to go if they are looking for us. This is 24 Parganas North, so it’s a bit away from the main city noise, but we have our own kind of busy life here. We deal with motors and engines of all types. Mostly we are fixing things that have broken down. There’s always a smell of petrol and old oil in the air. We have a lot of tools scattered around the floor and benches because there is always a bike or a small engine being worked on. We don’t have a fancy showroom with glass walls or shiny floors. Our walls are just bricks and we have a tin roof that sounds really loud when it rains during the monsoon. People from the nearby villages bring their vehicles here because they know we will take a look and see what’s wrong without making it complicated. It’s honest work and it gets our hands very dirty every single day. We spend most of the day in greasy overalls. Sometimes we have to wait a few days for a part to arrive from the city, and we just tell the customer to come back later. We don’t try to act like we are bigger than we are. We are just a local motor shop trying to keep the machines in Kholapata running properly so people can get to work.
