Janta General Stores

We spend most of our days here at 31, Jawahar Marg in Khargone. It’s right opposite Baheti Tower, so you can’t really miss the spot if you are walking through the market. Most of the time, the shop is a bit cluttered because shipments come in at odd hours and we have to find space for everything. Janta General Stores is just a regular place where people from the neighborhood come to pick up things they forgot to buy earlier in the week. It gets pretty hot in this part of Madhya Pradesh, so we keep the fans running all day. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just wait it out with the customers. We have been here for a while now, and the routine is mostly the same. You wake up, open the shutters, and start checking what’s low on the shelves. It’s not a fancy setup. The floor is old stone and the shelves are wooden. We handle a lot of small items, which means a lot of counting and checking boxes. Sometimes people stop by just to chat about the weather or the traffic near the tower. There are always people coming in for change or to ask for directions to the tower. It’s a loud area with all the horns honking outside. We just keep busy with the inventory and making sure the orders are correct. It’s a simple way to make a living, and Khargone feels like home to us.
