Ashok Kirana & Dyanya

We are situated near the Durga Mandir on Wadi Amravti Road, right in the Tekdi area of Wadi. The shop is officially called Ashok Kirana & Dyanya, which basically means we handle a lot of food grains and basic kitchen supplies. Since we are so close to the temple, we often hear the bells ringing throughout the day, which is a nice backdrop to the work we do. The Khargone Road traffic is always buzzing nearby, so there is never a moment of pure silence here. We have big open bags of pulses, wheat, and different kinds of rice lined up on the floor. Customers usually come in and point at what they want, and I weigh it out on the old scale. The floor is usually a bit dusty because of all the grain being moved around, but that is just part of the business. We have been here for a long time, and the building itself has a lot of character, even if it looks a bit worn out from the outside. People from the Tekdi neighborhood come to us for their flour and spices because we have been a steady presence here. I spend my afternoons tying up small plastic bags or checking the quality of the new grain shipments that come in on the trucks. It is hard work lifting the heavy sacks, but it is what we do to keep the shop running for the locals.
