Cane Busket Producer

Down near the Football Math in Kriparampur, right by Tetultala on D.H. Road, you’ll find where we work. At Cane Busket Producer, we make baskets out of cane. It’s a very hands-on process. You can see the raw cane piled up in the corner when you walk in. The smell of the material is quite strong, especially when it’s fresh. We sit on low stools and weave the strips together. It takes a lot of time and your fingers get pretty sore after a full day of it. We’ve been doing this in the Sukdevpur area for a long time. It’s a local craft that we just kept going with. People from the village often drop by to see what we're making or to order a few baskets for their homes. We don't have a website or anything like that. We just rely on people knowing where we are. The Football Math is a good landmark, so nobody really gets lost trying to find us. Sometimes the weather makes the cane hard to work with, but we manage. It’s a simple life. We make the baskets, we sell them, and then we start on the next batch. There is something nice about seeing a pile of cane turn into something useful by the end of the day. It’s just us doing what we know how to do every single morning. We hope the baskets last a long time for whoever buys them.
