Sagnik Creation

Sagnik Creation is located at 173/9 Notungram Road. We’re in the Shahab Bagan area of Shyam Nagar. It’s a residential part of town, so it’s usually pretty quiet except for the local kids playing in the street. We work out of a small space that’s filled with fabrics and thread. It’s a bit of a jumble, to be honest. There’s always someone sewing or cutting patterns. We started this because we liked making things by hand. It’s not a factory. We take our time with things. Sometimes we stay late because a project is almost done and we don't want to stop. My sister handles the books, though she’s always complaining about my handwriting. The North 24 Parganas area has a lot of places like ours, but we think we have a nice little corner. We don't do big advertisements. Most of our work comes from neighbors telling their friends about us. We’ve got a couple of old machines that make a rhythmic clicking sound all day. It’s like music after you get used to it. The walls are covered in sketches and scraps of cloth pinned up for ideas. It’s not professional-looking, but it’s how we work best. If you come by, mind the step at the entrance; it’s a little uneven. We’ve been meaning to fix it for months, but we never seem to find the time between orders. We just keep on sewing and hope for the best. It's what we do.
