Raj Rice Mills

Our mill is sitting on Tajoke Road in Tappamandi, which is a busy area in the Barnala district. We have been milling rice here for a long time. The main building is quite tall to fit all the cleaning equipment inside. When you walk in, the sound is quite loud, so we mostly talk with hand signals when the machines are at full speed. We take the raw crop and turn it into something people can actually cook. There are piles of gunny bags everywhere, some full and some empty, waiting to be used. The trucks line up outside early in the morning, sometimes blocking the road for a bit until we can get them inside the gate. We don't have any big signs or bright lights. It’s just a practical place for doing practical work. The office is just a small room with a fan that makes a clicking noise. We drink a lot of tea while we wait for the moisture levels in the grain to be just right. If the crop is too wet, we have to spread it out on the floor for a while. It takes a lot of manual labor and we have a small crew that has been with us for a long time. They know the rhythm of the place. We don't pretend to be a corporate giant. We are just a mill in Barnala doing what we’ve always done. We just keep the wheels turning day after day.
