Manjeet Rice Mills

Manjeet Rice Mills is based over at the Focal Point on Dirba Road in Kamalpur. Being in the Focal Point area means we are surrounded by other workshops and businesses, so there is always something going on nearby. Our mill is a pretty busy spot, especially during the months when the rice is coming in thick from the surrounding fields. We have a decent-sized space, but it always feels a bit cramped once the bags start piling up toward the ceiling. The air inside always smells like dry earth and grain. We have been here for a long time, and the building has seen its fair share of wear and tear. The windows are high up and a bit grimy, but they let in enough light for us to see what we are doing during the day. We don't have any big corporate goals or anything like that. We just want to make sure the machinery keeps humming and the bags get filled correctly. If a machine stops, everything stops, so we spend a lot of time on maintenance and quick fixes. Most of us have worked here for years and we don't need to be told what to do anymore. We just show up, do the work, and go home to our families in the evening. It is a simple way of making a living, and it suits us just fine. We are just part of the local industry here on the edge of town.
