Jai Jwalaji Rice Mills

Jai Jwalaji Rice Mills is out on Barnala Road, sitting pretty close to that big 220 K.V. grid. You can't miss the towers when you're coming this way. It's a dusty stretch of road, especially when the wind picks up across the fields. We’ve been operating out of this spot for quite a while now. The mill itself is a sturdy building that’s seen a lot of seasons. We spend our days watching the weather and waiting for the crops to arrive. Once the rice starts coming in, the whole place wakes up. The sound of the machinery is constant from dawn until dusk. We don't have a lot of fancy offices or a front desk. Most of the time, you'll find us out in the yard or near the loading docks. We do the maintenance ourselves, greasing the parts and making sure the bags are stacked right. It is tiring work, but it feels good to see the stacks grow high. My brothers and I run the daily operations. We know most of the drivers who come through here by name. It’s not a complicated life. We just try to keep the machines running and the yard clear. Sometimes we sit outside by the gate when things are slow and watch the traffic go by on Barnala Road. It’s a plain business, really. We just do our part in the cycle of the harvest every year without much fuss. We hope for good weather so the trucks can keep moving through the yard and the grain stays dry.
