Ganes Rice Mills

Ganes Rice Mills is right on Patran Road, just a little ways down from the Indian Oil Pump in Dirba. It's easy to find because of all the trucks parked out front. We’ve been operating here for quite a while. The location is good because we can get fuel for the machines right next door. Our day starts before the sun is even up most of the time. We get the engines warmed up and start the sorting. It’s a dusty environment, so we all wear old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. We don't have any polished brochures or a sales team. It's just us and the machines. Sometimes the harvest is late and we have to wait around, other times we can't keep up with the demand. We just take it as it comes. The yard is usually full of grain drying in the sun. We have to keep an eye on the sky in case a storm rolls in. If it starts to sprinkle, everyone drops what they are doing to cover the piles. It’s a lot of running around. We don't have a fancy office, just a small room with a desk and a few chairs where we keep the ledgers. It gets the job done. We like being part of the Dirba community and seeing the same faces every year. It's a simple, honest way to spend the day.
