B. R. Rice Mills

Our place, B. R. Rice Mills, is tucked away on Agarwal Street No. 5. It is near the Sainik Rest House Club Road, right over by Patla Road in Dirba Mandi. It’s a bit of a mouthful to explain where we are if you aren’t from around here. The street is narrow, and getting the big trailers in can be a real headache sometimes. We have had a few close calls with the walls, but that is part of being in an older part of town. The mill itself is old-fashioned. We don’t have those high-tech computers some of the big city places talk about. We rely on our eyes and hands mostly. Dirba Mandi is a busy spot, and we are right in the thick of it. The guys who work here have been with us a long time. We know each other’s families and stories. When the harvest is on, we are working late into the night under some old yellow lights. It feels good when the last bag is stacked and we can finally go home. The dust settles on everything—the desks, the phones, even our lunch boxes. It’s just how it is. We don't spend money on decorating because there's no point. As long as the machines turn and the rice is clean, we are happy enough. It's just a regular business on a regular street in Dirba Mandi. We don't try to be anything we aren't. Just a group of people working together in the mill.
